Our History

Master Vigil and his team of Instructors have been teaching together for 12 years, and in 2009 Master Vigil and his wife Instructor Vigil founded Vortexic Martial Arts. Vortexic’s foundation of traditional core values stems from the continued focus on discipline and integrity in an industry where many have lost their vision of the true martial artist.

Much of this can be attributed to Vortexic’s lineage. Master Vigil spent 4 years living with and training under 9th Dan GrandMasters J.K. Choi and W.K. Choi, and during an exchange program, has spent time training with the Korean Military Academy, and several Korean Taekwondo/Hapkido schools throughout Korea.

You will find that all of Vortexic’s staff and its Black Belts, are not just Instructors or Leaders, but guides to a better way of living for every student that steps on the mat. When a student breaks a board, or struggles with a technique, they will have the support and affirmation of their Brothers and Sisters in training. At Vortexic we truly believe in the idea of family within our school and treat each other as such. Young or old the implied philosophy will challenge you to a better way of life.

“Improving Yourself while Bettering the Lives of those around You”

What is Taekwondo and how does it differ from other martial arts?

Martial arts were developed thousands of years ago as forms of self-defense. Karate originated in Japan, Kung Fu came from China, and Taekwondo is native to Korea. In terms of techniques, Taekwondo emphasizes kicks more than other martial arts, making it ideal for improving your child’s balance, flexibility and endurance.

At what age can children start?

Our experience has shown that children three and up will be able to take the greatest advantage from Taekwondo classes.

Does Taekwondo increase aggressiveness?

Absolutely not! Your child will be taught from the first lesson that a true “Taekwondo kid” never misuses their martial art skills. Throughout their training, they will be reminded that being physically and mentally tough does not allow one to be tough to others. Instead, Taekwondo students are expected to be humble, courteous, respectful, and careful about when and where they practice their skills. We will continually educated your child that Taekwondo is a form of exercise and self-improvement, not a tool for bullying.

Can I take classes with my child?

Yes. In fact many families are finding Taekwondo to be the perfect family activity, combining an exciting workout with a new learning experience. You have your choice of attending Kids and Adults classes individually or coming together to our family classes. Either way you’ll have a great time and create a special family bond.

How safe is Taekwondo to learn?

Taekwondo is safe and fun for students of all ages and physical abilities. Classes are taught by expert instructors as students are shown techniques in a step-by-step manner at their own pace. A thorough stretching routine, matted flooring and protective safety equipment are all part of our commitment to ensuring student safety.

What if I've never practiced a martial art or I'm currently out of shape?

We have ongoing enrollment so beginners are always welcome. First time students receive one-on-one instruction designed to answer common questions and provide an introduction to the basics of Taekwondo. In addition, the belt system used in Taekwondo allows all students to train at their own pace and improve their physical condition gradually.
